friendboats

sailboats near trouville eugene-louis boudin

i've been listening to mariee sioux's release "faces in the rocks" and i came across this song.
the words are the kind of words i wish i'd written but happily they're out there regardless of how they arrived.

send some friendboats made from wood bones
for all that i have known has rowed away from this coast
and carve me a mask from the safety of their decks
and make me a dress from their masts

for i have never known such missing of that breaking water
no, i have never known such missing of that breaking water
no, i have never known
such missing of that breaking water

so when i go
please, when i am gone
when i go
please, when i am gone

then, burn me with their bows
and toss some saving golden ropes to
let us set anchor so far away from this coast
then close off this darkness with curtains of sails
and cast it forever into the chests of the whales

for i have never known such missing of that breaking water
no, i have never known such missing of that breaking water
no, i have never known
such missing of that breaking water

so when i go
please, when i am gone
when i go
please, when i am gone
then, burn me with their bows

Boudin is my absolute favourite painter Steven - I have several books of his works and every picture of his I see gives me joy.

Thank you for this find! Perfect timing not in that I am going to be gone but that a friend, a sailor, recently went and this song is perfect for him. Buried at sea where he was always most at home.
He bagged his dental practice here, his pedestrian life, early on deciding that living aboard, sailing mostly around South America was how he wanted to spend his time- wise- no body would have ever guessed that his heart would quit after about fifteen years of living his dream. Thanks again, Steven! So perfect.

More great music - thank you. The words are good, but hey there, the words that come through you are truly exquisite.
