more lovely ambient music

some stunning mixes have been assembled and very generously provided over at lowlight mixes where you will find a bit of a range from ambient drone, to music more closely resembling berlin school. again, these can be accessed as streams or you can download them. you’ll find lowlight right here.

in the realm of more challenging listening, blackstag has upped a mix done in london while thinking of the cotswolds. opening with what are described as “cottage sounds”, the mix moves through some dense scratchy glitch into a piece by “nest” that hovers impatiently between found sound and harmonic wash. a moody vocal piece that reminds me of some of akira rabelais’ more recent work with icelandic choral fragments then wobbles nicely into a piece by icelandic musician kira kira (also known as kristín björk kristjánsdóttir) entitled “boat”. a pensive guitar and scattering of glitch almost-but-not-quite awake feeling piece by tomasz bednarczyk draws the mix into its final stage which is comprised of a song about the merits of purchasing a cottage in the cotswolds entitled “cottager’s reply” by chris wood. the entire mix is suffused with field recordings of cottage sounds that lend a brittle warmth to the whole, redolent of life in the english cotswolds which i have had the pleasure of visiting once - many years ago. while challenging to most people, this is a very beautiful assemblage and definitely worth the twenty five minutes it will take to immerse yourself in this fine work.

finally, here's a lovely aural massage from ambient collective diatonis . . .
