mother's day

this is my little bruvver david and i. a very long time ago. i can see a little bit of a skirt and a long apron behind us. i believe that's my mum's mum. a lovely lady with a chuckling laugh, she was a baker's daughter. soft and kind in my remembering. she gave me miniature chocolate bars, and glass bowls filled with vanilla ice cream and mandarin orange slices

"a mother's love liberates".

on this - mother's day in north america -
i honour my mother
...
no more than i usually do mind you

because i have a deep respect for my mother
who was difficult
when i needed a "difficult" mother
but didn't know it

easy going and supportive
when i needed
an easy going
and supportive mother
but had no clue why

was and is loving -
without condition
whether i knew it
or not
(and of course i now know!)

and somehow she knew i'd figure so much of this out
and be alright.

it's very cool
to arrive at a place
of genuine appreciation
and admiration.

happy mother's day mum!

with love from steven

Happy Mother's Day, Steven's Mum! Thank you for the fantastic job you did in bringing this brightly shining soul into the world, nourishing it, nurturing it, protecting it, and guiding it so that he could share his light with all of us.

You have a great smile, Steven.

I love the recognition in this, Steven! I remember those times in my life when I realized what my mom meant to me, and that keeps unfolding. These are wonderful photos, of you and your little bruvver, and you and your mum. Happy Mother's Day to her, and to you, who I find have quite attentive, mothering instincts for the world.

Your Mum looks like a very sweet lady...which explains you. :)

There's a comedian who does a bit on how stupid parents are when you're a teen and how remarkably well adjusted those parents finally become by the time you hit 25. ;)

hope she's become a sweet lady. she couldn't afford to be entirely sweet when i was younger let me tell you!!! she's a very good and kind person. i'd tell you more but really, advertising and gushing about my mother would embarass her!!! thankyou all the same. steven

hi reya - i took that in her kitchen. it's her favourite of the two of us. she's been reading the comments here and asked me to express her gratitude to everyone for leaving such kind and thoughtful comments. reya, i can tell you her work wasn't easy but i've done what i can to make the work of my life honour the work my mum and dad put into me. it's a sort of trust thing - that eventually the kid will see stuff that's worthy and good about their parents. steven
