reaching from the earth

today, you confront me
and break into my heart.

following the wind,
and the crowd of them,
lightly accompanying me,
fly off into the air.

wave of love and sound,

and you take me to you,
it is unknown to you, that country
where each day I go down deep
to nourish secret syllables.

How on earth did you get snow to fall on your blog? Cool. Magic!!

"...to break my bitter bread." Beautiful.

I love the bare tree silhouette photos - especially the second one. Thank you...my vicarious winter.

So much stored in what appears dormant. I love that about this time of the year. Beautiful photos and words.

hi pauline - the sky was right on the edge of a sunset that never happened and so it hovered in that sweet spot between pink and blue and violet for some time. im glad you liked it. steven

hi kathleen - it's the time when you have to look and feel and see really hard because it's there, it's just tucked away. there's stories sleeping in everything. steven

Your photographs are beautiful. And they look cold.

We got -15° this morning. It means the animals will need to eat foods rich in fat, like sunflower chips to stay healthy. And the water bowl in plugged in so they have water to drink.

When there is no snow on the ground and no ice but everything is frozen solid, animals still have to drink water. So we invested in a heated pet's water dish years ago and just got a second one from Amazon.com for $17.00. Now the animals around here can get a drink of water.

The silhouettes you've captured with the subtle colors in the sky - quite lovely, Steven.

Hi, Steven. I loved the excerpted words so much I clicked the link "wind at tindari" and read the whole poem, too. Those words are towards the end of the poem. Sorry to throw you for a loop! You must of thought I was pretty cuckoo for a moment! :)

steven, once again you have introduced me to someone I didn't know before. Reaching from the earth is a phrase with a depth of meaning only grasped with much thought.
