dusk's golden light

it's well below zero.
the sun is low on the horizon.

leaves long dried to a pale brown
cling loosely to trees gone quiet for the winter.

then suddenly
a stillness.

i lean out of my window.

the air is cold but moist - snow's on the way.

the sun is just kissing the tops of the hills to the west.

i'll be walking up those hills soon on my way home.

but not until i've savoured
this moment.

If there is such thing as a perfect post, this is it!!! I adore this posting - it is calming, moving, feeling, and the photos are stunning. It really has the feel of snow falling with the snow falling across your background, makes you want to stick out your tongue and catch a snowflake. The line about the sun kissing the tops of the hills wraps you around you like a big, warm hug. Absolutely beautiful!!!

I was out yesterday in the golden light, as well. It really is a beautiful time of the year, with the sun so low, so much less brassy than summer.

I was doing the same thing the other day... peeking out the window, just waiting for the snow. Love the way you expressed it!

yes golden west, there's a totally different quality of light at this time of year that is so pure and comes from low on the horizon- it's there for the shortest time and then hmmmmmmm it's drifted behind the hills. a real transitory beauty. steven

bonnie - i see that. the small spaces and moments that stir me allow for reflection in a way that is intimate and revealing. steven

thanks ellie kings! i was in my classroom after the kids had gone - alone, quiet and there it was! golden light in a particular part of the sky, catching a small area of the trees. i was entranced. honest i was! i knew the snow was coming. so i waited a while and then walked through it. steven
