stormy weather

stormy times!
there's a ruckus in the air! clouds roiling and moiling every which way!

yester eve was coloured and filled by great rolling rumbles of
thunder and lightning that played across the sky
in the true and full use of the word "play".

in the middle of the night,
as i was settling into a good facsimile of what my fifty two year old body calls a "night's sleep",
there was another game played by the way up there club.

bang!! smash!! flash!! kaboommmmmrrrrrrmmmmbbbbllle!!

truly spectacular!!!

the day unfolded with thick air that has travelled all the way from the gulf of mexico. past my friends in texas, swung over north carolina, over the skies of washington, up and over ohio, 'cross lake erie, over my son alan's head down in london, and then eventually over my head here in peterborough.
so bloggy friends and loved ones.
we have shared the air!!

here's what it looked like by the time it reached us.

passionate cloud kisses.

We've had the same here today! I was out shopping when the heavens burst; the downpipes on the shops were gushing and the gutters weren't coping. It's the most rain we've seen for a long time. Lots of thunder and lightning and hail! Fantastic!

Great shots, Steven. I've just come in, in between showers, snapping sky shots too.

Sorry, I didn't mean to steal your thunder! Boom, boom!

Awsome Steven.

hi alaine, knowing that it also rained and thundered all that way away makes me think of the incredible film footage that the space station took of storms from their vantage point high above and what they showed was lightning playing across vast spaces, connecting storms that seemed to be distinct.
you didn't steal my thunder alaine, you added to it!! thanks and have a peaceful late winter's day. steven

hi bonnie, i sat outside quite a bit yesterday. i waited through the clouds joining together and then even when it started to rain, i waited and let it rain on me. it's such a peaceful feeling once you get past the idea that you're not supposed to be sitting in the rain. at times like that i wish i had set up a tent. i love the sensation of being in a tent with the front flap open watching the rain at ground level. pure magic!! have a lovely day. steven

Hi Steven

that's one good thing about Queensland houses with the wide covered verandahs - you can sit outside and watch a storm, unless it is too blustery of course.
We can get the most amazing electrical storms, but not in winter, early summer usually....when it rains a lot...

We are very dry now, no rain for a couple of months in my area and already it looks dry...

Happy days

Great shots! I am fascinated with the storms around here. There was a big storm go through, but we were just north of the normal high wind/precipitation path. I took a video of the storm one dawn, having had a date with Mr. Insomnia!

Isn't it wonderful when we look up and beyond our immediate surroundings, beauty is often waiting? Nice shots.

helo delwyn, i love verandas and you want to believe that if we had one. i'd sit out and watch the storms blow in. we do have a big deck at the back which is wide open to the elements so nowhere to hide. most of the weather blows from the west and guess which way it's facing?!!! yep!! it's been quite a while since i saw sheet lightning come to think of it. when i was a kid there was more of that than forked lightning. i hope you get rain soon delwyn. have a peaceful evening. steven

hi jenn, i watched the video. i wondered if we'd get a look at the windchimes which you can hear through the first half of the video and sure enough!!! storms approaching across a lake - my favourite moment is the point where the rain clouds the surface of the water as it approaches so you can see the line of it falling. thanks for the link. i hope comment readers take the time to have a look. have a lovely day! steven

hello angie and welcome!!!! i spend quite a bit of summer looking into the sky. it's a visual and thinking break from reading and writing!!! it's also reminding of how much extraordinary power and beauty there is all around us - you're so right!! have a peaceful day. steven

Awesome sky pics, Steven! We had just one boom of thunder last night. It woke me up and I waited for more, but it was just the one.

I did send a friendly kiss on the waves of humidity up to all of you who live north of me. Nice to know we're all living in the same biosphere, no matter what our exact location might be.

xx on the wind

Linda and I are coming to Peterborough on the 22nd for the Lovin' Spoonful concert at the Festival of Lights.

I hope the skies are clearer that day.

Although maybe Mother Nature's concert would be better?

Beautiful cloud pictures. We've been getting some rain in the city but out at the country house, pictures of rain clouds passing over is as close as we get.

hi reya, the air is thinner today . . . shades of grey sheets of cloud washing over low to the ground and then little blue breaks that let me see all the way to the teeny tiny broken cloud bits way high. beautiful!!!
when is aw these clouds i thought that the way they were drawing together was like a kiss. have a peaceful afternoon in the big (and little) biospheres. steven

hi barry, i hope that the concert works out for both of you. clear skies, clear music, remembering what was and experiencing what is the lovin' spoonful. have a lovely day. steven

Passionate cloud kisses. I've always loved the drama of a coming storm. I adore the notion of it being like the drama of a passionate kiss. Beautiful metaphor, Steven. Sigh.

I think those clouds passed over us yesterday. At least it felt like they were on the ground. Talk about humidity. Two or three minutes and I had to get back inside.

I feel like a load came off my back after this mornings posts. I have been playing on my computer this morning and have enjoyed it. I read the online newspapers and commented on some stories they published. I was also outside a bit before the humidity built back in. So far I have enjoyed this day a lot.

I have some great ideas on things to publish on Pick a Peck of Pixels and I will change the banners on the blogs even if I don't blog on them.

Thanks for bending your ear.

yes willow - passion, drama, sighs!!! there's lots more to clouds . . .lots!!!! have a lovely afternoon. steven

hey abe - it was so hot i too kept going inside to recharge. it was like standing too close to a bonfire at times!!! i haven't read the comments to your post yet think that you asked and said something that lurks in the back of a lot of writer's minds and it was really worthy and worth thinking about. i am very protective of what matters to me and when a sutiation becomes overwhelming and demanding then i look at it and see if it's worth it or not. so bend away abe!! steven
