playing with street art

if you put your hand
to the ground
you'll feel the warmth
of the rain
and then
the deeper warmth of the pavement

take your shoes off
and feel that wet warmth
through the soles of your feet

draw your feet slowly
through the puddles

feel the rainwater
catching between your toes

its all so very simple

The joys of remembering to be a child- so easily forgoten in the midst of a grumble about the weather- thanks for the reminder...Next time it rains, which will be soon, I will go out barefoot.

Yes please, steven!

linda sue - i have reached a place of peace with the weather tht acknowledges that there is nothing i can do to change it so i do what i can to live with it, enjoy it if possible, or not let it define my life negatively. sounds very zen but when your sole means of transportation exposes you to the elements, a necessary choice!!! steven

titus - it's really good, really the best to see what little kids do instinctively. especially if it's something you were told not to do!!! steven

I love to watch the steam rise on a hot pavement after rain in summer. Somehow this image comes to me as I read your post here. Thanks.

elisabeth - it might seem odd for a fifty three year old man to say that when i see the rain evaporating i think that's sort of magical. i don't even know why - then i think about how hot it must be for that to happen!! that's when you want to walk in it though - because it'll be nice and warm! steven

I know I always say this, but it really is a gift to be simple. Beautiful, as always, Steven.

For some reason, Steven, I read your word 'catching' as 'etching' (not sure why ...) - a serendipitous mistake, perhaps?

There's certainly rain, rain and more rain here!

willow - keep on saying it - to whomever will listen. then especially say it to those who can't hear!! steven

weaver i think it's because people develop a sense of what they should be. then they live up to those restrictions. it's about how you see yourself and then how you wish to be seen isn't it! steven

technobabe i remember rain as something i really loved because it meant doing indoor things or playing in it if we were allowed. i'm still much the same! steven

aleks - all fair points of course. perhaps i should be writing this blog in the first person as i really only describe my own experiences - and then wish them for others! steven

caroline i've been on bike rides where road grit gets inside my shoes and then the rain and the grit and the socks all conspire to "etch" my poor feet! steven

Finding solace on wet pavement; an effective counterpoint to esteemed nature.
