across time

this building
held me closer
each time i passed it

haunted my imaginings

whispered softly to me
across fields of gold
sleep and distance

come closer

know me
hold me
as if i were your own

for once i was

yes, you knew me as your home
you walked through me
leaned on me
called me
in your darkest moments
the place you would always return to
and
now you have

Hi Steven

I also like that last photo because it doesn't reveal quite what it is, there is the mystery there and it could be in another place altogether, Japan even...
You have captured great contrasts of colour Steven

happy days

thankyou jenny. steven

linda sue - i kept going back to this building. it was empty overlooked the sea set by this golden field. it was all together stunning and i felt the strongest emotional connection to it and couldn't explain it to myself or anyone else. steven

rachel thankyou. i'm glad you were able to feel something of what i felt through these pictures and words. steven

These images are stunning Steven, almost like oil colours. No wonder you looked again and again.

The photos are like visual haikus -- no excess, just beauty through simplicity.

Like Jinxy, I could gaze at these photos forever. And the poem. Wow and wow. I've felt like this about buildings, trees, people, rivers and lakes.

come closer
know me
hold me
as if i were your own.

Indeed!! Wow.

reya i knew you'd get this piece. it's hard for some people to take in the depth of connection that can accumulate through the many lives we live and how the connections established in those lives between us and objects or people or experiences can call us back. sometimes again and again. steven

meri - thankyou for that. i know that i think about pictures sometimes after the fact. these pictures were right there and as i saw them i knew that they could tell the story of my experiencing of that moment. steven

elisabeth thankyou. the )to me) best pictures i have taken recently have had that quality. it's something to do with the clouds and the colours. and something else. steven

Steve,

Kim and I sat by the fire tonight, under a clear Island sky, catching falling stars and taking in the silence. Just a few "blocks" away from this beautiful, ramshackle home. (Do you know the story behind it? Very interesting. If you like, I'll share it.) It was as magnificent an hour as you now know it would be, and I thought about you and how you would take it all in and remember it, too. Glad you're sharing the sense of PEI with your friends.
Paul
PS. Pearl's house is still for sale.

How wonderful that these images are unspoiled by commercialization. There is a timeless sweep here.

Steven, I've always admired your photographs, but this trip has really unleashed your talents - some of your best photos ever!

steven said...

paul c., thankyou for this kind comment. there is so little - almost no commercialization of anything when you step a handful of minutes of the beaten track in prince edward island. steven

steven said...

paul e. well i would really love to hear the story of this home. it's strange to walk by a place and feel like you've known it for a very long time but this building had that effect on me. enjoy the rest of your time there!!! steven

willow thankyou so much! steven

golden west - wow! i am tickled by your very kind comment. i was awed by the scenery and by the feeling of being at home for the very first time in a long time. perhaps that shows up in the photographs. i'll be returning next year to a different part of the island as well as travelling end-to-end by bike - 250+km so a quick five day trip. steven

Fields of gold... how beautiful. I love the brilliance of the sky against the gold of the field. Simply beautiful.
