sweet space

the early morning light
dances in that sweet space
between tangerine
and pale strawberry.

it fills the air
touching the undersides
of the clouds
then
tumbles through the trees

leaving tell-tale
splashes
of pale pink
and blood-orange
on their sleeping limbs

then gently settles
to the earth
where it caresses
its winter snowskin
into a semblance
of warmth.

You just get better and better! What is it like to be in your head, Steven?

Once when I was driving a truck for the U.S. Post Office, a fellow employee whom I was transporting commented on the first blush of dawn at four something in the morning. He said, "Ah, tis the peach 'o the mornin' Ricky, peach 'o the mornin'. Your pictures are lovely. Totally peachy.

Mmmmm...in that third photo especially you can feel it! So lovely...gentle warmth of the early morning sun. 'Tis a favorite of mine.
Thank you, Steven!

I wonder what your observations will be like Steven when summer comes. This winter, which I share with you only though images, seems to be going on for a very long time.

hello elsiabeth - winter is long - this has been a gentler one than most. spring and summer receive equal treatment here and yet - i don't know what we'll get. last summer was incredibly rainy. then hot then it was autumn. i expect the snow will leave in a few weeks. have a peaceful day. steven

kathleen what a great question. it's a sometimes noisy, sometimes quiet place of "synchronicities and discombobulations colliding and colluding with my similarly disjunctive outer self. the whole is melded into the roiling cloud of wheels within wheels, pipes and wires, sparks flying every which way universe that i know as myself". most of the time i like being there, but there are times when i could wish for simple quiet and it simply isn't there. have a peaceful day. steven

hey richard that's a word i use to describe my physical self in the morning - fuzzy on the outside but sweet on the inside. well that's not true every day but pretty close!!! steven

Beautiful words and photos. You have captured the essence. I'm sure you are now looking toward spring and the gentle blossoms that will bloom.

Wonderful post, steven, and it conveys the warmth you want to see... but from my rather spoiled California perspective, it just look brr! !COLD! as seen through rose-colored glasses. Stay warm, my friend.

At first I didn't "get" the tangerine and pale strawberry . . . but then the light dawned! It's wonderful that you managed to capture those faint pastel streaks of reflected light on the snow.

Beautiful!

I've never thought of the sun doing anything but melting snow...but you managed to capture a real warmth, as if the snow were lit from within by a cheery fire. Nice!
