gaze in thine own heart

there are days of self-doubt -

the wondering
at a day -

where was i in all of that?

what did i leave behind
that made this world
a better place?

i think that
everything has a purpose.
no matter how insignificant.

the mystery is in unpacking the purpose,
figuring out just
what it's value is
and then of course
slotting that purpose,
that knowing,
into something that makes sense
in the course of your visit here.

days like this,
i love the words of yeats.
~

beloved, gaze in thine own heart,
the holy tree is growing there;

george inness summer, montclair

from joy the holy branches start,
and all the trembling flowers they bear.
the changing colours of its fruit
have dowered the stars with merry light;

a rose from armida's garden marie spartali stillman

the surety of its hidden root
has planted quiet in the night;
the shaking of its leafy head
has given the waves their melody,
and made my lips and music wed,
murmuring a wizard song for thee.

Hi, steven--

How about more words to love from WB? These seem to fit my mood of this day:

I am worn out with dreams;
A weather-worn, marble triton
Among the streams;
And all day long I look
Upon this lady's beauty
As though I had found in a book
A pictured beauty,
Pleased to have filled the eyes
Or the discerning ears,
Delighted to be but wise,
For men improve with the years;
And yet, and yet,
Is this my dream, or the truth?
O would that we had met
When I had my burning youth!
But I grow old among dreams,
A weather-worn, marble triton
Among the streams.

I blame the moon for these past few days of insomnia and general weirdness. But of course this, too, shall pass.

I love your question, "Where am I in all this?" It is a sense of disorientation as much as anything else.

Sending lots of love in your direction.

Then again, if we're quoting Yeats, I'm reminded of the following:

Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

Ah, the man knew how to write!
