what a difference

four of my students got their heads shaved on tuesday
in honour of family members fighting cancer.

one of my girls had her ponytail cut off
to help make a wig for a girl who has lost her hair due to her treatments.

kids are so brave.
so really truly deeply brave.

do you remember how important it was to you
in grade six to not,
absolutely not
look weird or different.

i guess these kids didn't read that part of the book!!!

i skipped that part also!!!

Wow. My comment yesterday must have been prescient, as if I Knew something about your image was afoot.

You are a handsome man, my friend, and one with a heart as big as your country! Oh, yes, I very much remember 6th grade and the ache to fit in. What lucky students to have you shepherd them through the year!

kathleen, it's quite a crew - thirty students this year and everyone of them a character i tell no lie!!! but when it comes down to things like this - there's no fear, no stopping them, and i'll take that any day if these are the people to grab the reins of the world!!! have a sweet day. steven

When my aunt was dying of ovarian cancer, two of my uncles and I shaved our heads in her honor. I didn't think it would mean as much as it did - it's just hair, after all - but she was really touched by the gesture. I hope it means as much to you and your students as it did to us.

I think you look like the wise guru you are!

Lucky for you you have got the handsome factor down pretty well. A bit premature weatherwise for the nothing on top practicalities but a most worthy cause, very cool... you can wear a hat until summer comes...

Compared to Love, hair is highly overrated.

My heros! All of you!

I prefer Zen Master to eggman, but your students clearly know you're a good egg.

Thank you steven; I expect there are very few of us who have not had cancer affect either our lives or those of our loved ones. I've lost one sister-in-law far too young and it's lovely to see money, and awareness, raised. Even by a shiny head!

You look lovely either way! And all for a great cause!

Nothing better than leading by example...and to a kid their age, that's QUITE the example. One they'll remember for the rest of their lives.

Egghead, huh? Looks more like Noble and Kind. :)

Those kids are so courageous--and you I'm sure are an inspiration to them. Or is it the other way around? It goes both ways, of course.
PS: I love your new header Steven.

thankyou to everyone for their generous and thoughtful comments. i'm unable to answer them all at the present time. i'm a bot overwhelmed at the moment as a teacher candidate (student teacher) at my school was critically injured while driving home. i'm finding it hard to take good care of even the simplest things. i'm sure you'll understand and i'll be back at this as soon as i regain my equilibrium. steven
