yes is a pleasant country

this morning’s listening comes courtesy of
swiss singer susanne abbuehl.

her disc, “compass” is breathtaking in its ability to take complex text
and place it in a very listenable and yet challenging musical frame.
the music is sparse and economical,
giving susanne’s voice the opportunity to slip in and around,
through and under the assemblage.

go here to see and hear a sample of susanne’s work.

listen here to a work written by ee cummings and sung by susanne:

I guess you are on a roll just now. I'v e had to do a bit of catching up - and a really gratifying process it was: a string of superb posts. I really admire - and somewhat envy - your photographs. And now poetry of equal merit. Lovely.

I have a bit of catching up to do here, so I will make myself another cup of coffee before coming back to scroll down for a lovely peaceful peruse.

I'd not heard of Susanne before so thanks, she does have a splendid voice, and I love ee cummings!

The singer reminds me of something or someone I have seen or heard somewhere. Movies? A cabaret?

Thank you so much for Susanne Abbuehal. She's just the sort of singer I like. I will be buying a CD soon. I came here by way of Dave King's blog because of your wonderful response to his Haiti Haiku. I'm so glad I did.

Oh I very much like this, steven. What a smoky sultry voice Susanne has.

And what an excellent comment you received from Dave King.

Rest up and have a wonderful weekend.

This is such a treat- usually I am not keen on going to other people's music choices.Susanne is my cup of tea with a bit of brandy...Lovely voice that just takes all of the bumps out of the road. I trust her singing- wrapped up, warm, not likely to be bounced off or wrung out on a screaming high note. Thanks you, Steven- great find!
