the best mamgu ever

the last few days here at the golden fish world headquarters have been sprinkled with a variety of music ranging from the obscure to the almost middle of the road. of the latter, the work of electronic group underworld has been front and centre. i have especially been enjoying their oblivion with bells release which came out last october.

underworld is a unique band having moved dramatically from being a late eighties funky electro pop band that grew out of an association with freur (who i believe were responsible for the redoubtable hit “doot doot”) into the present juggernaut duo underworld - provider of countless dancefloor hits.

oblivion with bells reveals a more relaxed and confident band creating music that segues easily from listenable to danceable. the track i have selected here is on high rotation here and may not be the best piece of music of this disc or others they have produced but it does have that feeling about it of goodness that i seek. a slow groove with mangled vocal samples, electronics skipping and swishing about, and of course a chug chug groove that gets your foot moving and your head gently moving back and forth.
