heaven and earth

they dropped like stars
on this
the stillest day

their
perfect forms
falling
like earthbound angels

and i got so close
i could see
their little wings
folded one against the other
brushing close
as they settled against
the winter metal
of a rusting fence

and so do
heaven and earth
rest first side by side
and then become each other

Delightful pictures of frozen snow on red rust.

I'm not a believer in heaven, but earth I'll take with both hands and melt. These photos are art, Steven.

steven said...

rachel it's interesting to me that you aren't a believer in heaven. neither am i! not as a place that is - but as a possibility framed in earthly terms. from that comes the phrase "and then become each other". they're melded - so melded that the terms bare no weight. they just are. steven

thankyou matias!! steven

My favorite lines:

"their
perfect forms
falling
like earthbound angels."

And the first stanza, how awesome, if I could steal it, I would, it's that stunning,

and the phrase, "winter metal" as well as the concept that heaven & earth can meld, become part of one another, and my reading of it to be a relationship (of 2 opposing beings).

They do have little star wings. Lovely. They are melting here. I'm sad to see them go.
