at daybreak

i had a dream and i awoke with it -
poor little thing that i had not unclasped
after the kiss goodbye.

and at the surface how it gasped -
this thing that i had loved in the unlit
depth of the drowsy sea . . .
ah me!
this thing which i drifted toward the sky.

driftwood upon a wave -
senseless the motion that it gave.

Whoa. Or should I say wow.

The drowsy sea. Oh yeah.

What a fabulous image of the dream, unable to survive the day. The whole poem is brilliant in its concept, the words you have chosen and the way in which you have woven thatm into the whole. A poem to treasure.

I would like to think that I usually understand poetry but because my brain is on ice today, I think it's making me miss the big picture..

would you care to explain?

How beautiful to think of "unclasping" our dreams and kissing them goodbye!

Thank you once again for a purely beautiful moment.

Floating like driftwood... it's so relaxing and stress free.
Were you floating off to sleep when you posted this?
I love the poem, and the thoughts it invokes. Thank you, Steven.

linda - i'm close to sleep most of the time right now - it's report card time and it seems that every molecule of my existence is tied up in teaching and reporting . . . so i'm keeping my eyes open as much as possible to remind myself of what else is real and worthy and sustaining!!! steven
