the shape leaves

i awoke this morning to a falling of small snow

like drifting white vapour

and i got to thinking of a summer's day seeds
sometimes hovering
sometimes clustering
and then a sudden sidewards tack
on a thread of moving air

then continuing their journey
slowly downwards
and settling in the soil

in the weft and warp of their lives,
how they get there isn't as important as getting there

they can wait

if not now
then another time

if not there
then another place

~

i greatly admire the music of richard skelton.

his music has some of the characteristics of leaves and snow and seeds
as it wends and werns its way through paths that
sometimes find resolution
and more often lead to
a thought
that emerges from an obscured detail of the previous passage

And this is for us, too. How we get there is also a part of us as it is of nature. Your poem speaks volumes.

robert it's not as commercially accessible as some of the visitors here may be used to experiencing but it sits in that place that allows for something other to enter into the equation and for that alone i like it!! steven

You introduced me to his music in a post last year. I often play his music while I'm working; it's the perfect foundation for healing and wholeness. Thanks again for these songs and for your never ending poetic wisdom. x

We're having just that sort of snowfall at this very moment here in Weldon Spring, Missouri.

To watch it from my window as I listen to the music clips makes it all the more magical.

Thank you, Steven.

There is such a certainty about seeds. They will be what they are, all in good measure, when timing and conditions are right. Some of them are not in any hurry. The digitalis I thought would run riot in my garden after I planted some parent plants in 2009 are just beginning to poke through the ground now, saying, "You're always in such a hurry!"

I really enjoyed "Landings", it is good felting music- so inspired I dashed out to buy more wool. Your words naturally nature-ish pleased Dexter especially- I took him out in it for a long walk...and we thought about leaves, and snow, and seeds.

meri that's so true! i've sown so many seeds and seen nothing and then randomly scattered others and they've flourished beyond my imagining! thanks for your thoughtful comment. steven
