my previous posting entitled "here comes the sun" was perhaps like suggesting that a goalie looks like they're going to get a shutout. a simple comment that opens the door to - well this!! here's the weather forecast for wednesday, january 7.
readers from houston might be interested to note that this is what a "texas low" looks like when it arrives up here in canada:
"the first storm of 2009 will be a mix of snow and rain with the risk of freezing rain. a texas low is heading towards southern ontario bringing tropical moisture, slightly warmer temperatures and a mix of precipitation. it will cross the border this evening, hitting the gta overnight and moving on to ottawa wednesday morning.
freezing rain warnings are in effect for the niagara area to hamilton for tuesday night. the gta can expect as much as 10 cm of snow by the time the system moves out wednesday evening.
temperatures are expected to hover around the freezing mark which could mean snow or rain or even freezing rain locally. the wednesday morning commute could be slow due to icy road conditions.
by wednesday afternoon the risk of freezing rain will diminish but roads may be slippery due to snow accumulations. drivers should give themselves extra time for wednesday's commute.
for thursday temperatures will drop slightly with the chance of flurries.
freezing rain and snowfall warnings are currently in effect across southern ontario."

I started reading this, Steven, laughed and thought, "What an imagination. A 'Texas low'? Ha!"
Never heard of such a thing. Why not a 'United States' low? An 'Oklahoma' low? Even a 'Tennessee' low? Why a 'Texas' low? Why pick on us? Why, why, why, Steven? I mean, what did we ever do to you? We don't say an 'Ontario' front, after all! We say a Canadian front. We spread the wealth around. Pick on somebody your own size! (But then I guess we ARE your own size!!)
I hope you're not planning to bicycle to work in freezing rain and sleet. Or are you? I could believe it if you were. I wouldn't like it, but I'd believe it. "Roads may be slippery due to snow accumulations" ... what a bunch of blarney and malarkey. Roads may be slippery due to ice! Duh!!
Glad I'm not there. Sorry you are, but glad I'm not. I won't even mention our weather. Wouldn't want to make you cry. Your tears would freeze your eyeballs shut, and then where would you be?
BTW, you jinxed yourself (not to mention all of your neighbors and most of southern Ontario) with that "Here comes the sun" post, you know. I thought to myself when I read it, "Uh oh! Now he's gone and done it!!" Criminy, Steven! You've got to be more careful than that!! I mean, you can think it and smile a lot, but don't utter a peep about it and for Heaven's sake don't WRITE about it!!!
hey goldenrod, i did not make up that moniker "texas low" the weather people did!!! we get all kinds of stuff coming up from the states - i really should blog about the names and locations - you'd be amazed what we blame you for!! the actual conditions here are simple. there's a layer of really smooth ice - like glass goldenrod - on top of which are ten centimetres of powder snow. nice for shovelling, terrible for walking eight kilometres home in - which by the way is what i do instead of biking. i get a ride to school from a colleague for whom i buy carbon offsets (well they're for his car actually!) and then i walk the 8 k home. up hills and in the snow and whatever else. it helps maintain my youthful figure!!! ha!
I checked houston's weather. i'll be upping that crushing piece of information later for all to see!! lucky lady that you are!!!!
