wow! what a time for time. clocks are being created to suit all styles and tastes, ranging from the whimsical to the exotic to the precision machined. there's a vast array in-between those general descriptors.
the three that i've chosen for today are all led based clocks - nothing extraordinary there. but they each have something unique about them that reflects the owner's personal style.
the first - a wooden led clock. called the to:ca ‘wood’ led clock, this clever design comes from the mind of kouji iwasaka who took it to the asahikawa international design fair in 2002. where he won top prize.
the clock has a very thin layer of veneer that is so thin that the leds behind it actually shine through. it’s available in two sizes: long (7" x 4" x 3.5") or tall (8.25" x 3.5" x 3.5"). the package includes an ac adapter.
next is another beauty - albeit totally different - designed by jonas damon, this clock not only tells the time but also has an alarm with snooze and adjustable brightness. each cube is 1" x 1.5"h. and can be arranged in a variety of configurations.
the nara clock brings a cool quirky artsy quality to that nasty first-thing-in-the-morning experience of squinting through thick eyelids at the glowing red numbers. the nara clock designed by yoshitomo nara for cerealart provides you with the enviable experience of waking up each morning to a cast of 84 quirky characters for every hour and minute, all designed by nara.
so, instead of a basic run-of-the-mill digital clock, why not have a look around and choose a fun and colorful way to keep time on your bedside or desk.
all these clocks are available from unica.
