the night that was . . .

in the rain-smeared
night
that was . . .

cars swish-hissed by
on their blurry paths of light

the trees swayed,
and leaves
skipped down the
darkened colourless street
like tiny grey ballerinas.

mysterious forms
appeared at the window . . .
and i heard
the surreptitious
scurrying
of a mouse
inviting its family
and friends
to spend the evening
in my chimney.

I love to hear the rain lashing the windows at night, car or house, and play face seek in the droplets and streaks on the glass.

Extraordinary photgraphs, steven!
No wonder the mice fancied a night inside.

hi rachel - the sound and sight and scent of rain is high up on my list of sensorial pleasures. especially if i am just ging to bed or just waking up. it softens the air - literally and metaphorically. have a peaceful day. steven

hello titus - yes the mouse is a chocolate brown mouse and very clever. my chimney has long been a favourite haunt for those little animals who need to winter inside! have a peaceful day. steven

The photos are beautiful and very sensual Steven. I love the sound of the rain as well, especially when we're out camping in a tent.

Lovely reflective rainy pics, Steven. I adore the notion of a mouse inviting his friends and family to spend the evening in your chimney!

oh barry absolutely - the very best place to be is in a tent!! waking by an algonquin lake and looking across the water as rain spits or chucks it down - well i don't mind either. it's golden!!! have a lovely day. steven

I could completely understand a 'mice agreement'. The pictures are compelling, beautiful.
