with the about-to-be-ending of summer, each day of sunshine is like a treasure. a long time ago the summer was a time for jazz concerts and festivals. great musicians would visit toronto and play alongside the great canadian musicians like phil nimmons, moe koffman, guido basso, rob mcconnel, terry clarke, don thompson and ed bickert. my music tastes have changed somewhat since that time but i still appreciate the incredible talent these musicians possessed and in many cases still share with the world.
for example, let's take a quick listen and look at ed bickert whose understated yet lush work on his trademark solid body fender telecaster made many concerts i attended rise above the commonplace. something in the way that he could move from langurous chord strumming to righteous picking made me feel like i was hearing stories told through his guitar.
here's a really lovely example of ed's work . . .i'd hazhard a guess that the bassist is don thompson . . . i'm not sure about the drummer (terry clarke?) . . . doesn't matter . . .
"ed's blues" . . .
here's some more about ed.
