the world of diecast automobile models has changed dramatically in the last twenty years moving from the preserve of a few well-heeled individuals to the point where i can go into a big box department store and pick up a diecast model of a car released as a concept at a european car show!
however, where the availability of diecast models has made one rarefied world that much closer to the general public, there is still very much a market for models that are far removed from the mass-produced objects at wal-mart. models that are hand made with all the care and attention that the originals received.
artist craftsmen like francisco pulido more than confirm that there is still a place and a need, for highly detailed one-off replicas of the great automobiles. what this man has created here likely rivals the original in its unparalleled devotion to detail and originality.
here’s an excerpt from his biography:
“francisco pulido was born in caldes de montbui, a small town near barcelona in spain. he builds automobile models, primarily in 1/10 scale, making every part himself and even taking processes like painting and electro-plating in-house in order to control quality. a typical model takes about 3000 hours and can entail the production and assembly of up to 6000 pieces. he works from plans and photos, and in the case of the 4.5 litre bentley shown here, drew the plans himself from measurements taken from the actual car.”
here are some images of pulido’s bentley blower project.
he is currently engaged in building a bugatti type 57 sc corsica to even more painstakingly exact standards. here’s a full-size version.
i'll keep you posted so that you can see this vehicle lovingly rendered into a model equally as stunning if not moreso than the original!
