theo jansen - wind-driven life-forms

theo jansen is a kinetic artist. hailing from holland, he creates extraordinary kinetic sculptures that he treats as living beings. theo builds large works which resemble the skeletons of animals and are able to walk using the wind on the beaches of the netherlands. his works connect art and engineering . . . and in so doing, enter the realm of the magical . . .

an amazing documentary is being assembled by filmmaker alexander schlichter. the work and thinking in progress can be viewed and read here on schlicter's blog.

here’s a taste of what is to come . . .

here is theo speaking and proudly showing off his wonderful work at the ted conference . . . i love thinkers, creative out-of-the-box thinkers like theo who remind me of how important it is to not stop and settle for what works . . . .
