i'm making the very most of the spring snow we've had over the last few days. three nights ago, i arrived home and my daughter asked me if i'd seen the bush outside. "the one where the birds make nests every year." i had ignored it. so strange because it was amazingly beautiful with fluffy clouds of snow clinging to each and every little twig and branch.
come. see.

beautiful words from gary snyder.
kyoto: march
a few light flakes of snow
fall in the feeble sun;
birds sing in the cold,
a warbler by the wall. the plum
buds tight and chill soon bloom.
the moon begins first
fourth, a faint slice west
at nightfall. jupiter half-way
high at the end of night-
meditation. the dove cry
twangs like a bow.
at dawn mt. hiei dusted white
on top; in the clear air
folds of all the gullied green
hills around the town are sharp,
breath stings. beneath the roofs
of frosty houses
lovers part, from tangle warm
of gentle bodies under quilt
and crack the icy water to the face
and wake and feed the children
and grandchildren that they love.

Have enjoyed looking at all your photographs of the new snow these past few days. It sure looks wet, and not long for this world! Is this the last gasp, do you think, or will Mother Nature bring you some more?
hi goldenrod! thanks for dropping by. the snow you see in these images is almost all gone. it's my second favourite snow - the spring snow. my favourite snow is the first good snow in the (sometimes) late autumn. it reminds me of how pretty snow can be. in winter, the snow is pretty but like anything beautiful that is omnipresent, you get tired of it in some ways.
i expect one more light snow. three weeks from now.
