bentley motors of england have been manufacturing extraordinary vehicles since january 18. 1919. founded by w.o. bentley, the company produced some of the most powerful and beautiful racing vehicles, including this gorgeous example of a 1929 “blower” bentley. bentley’s corporate site has a rich and detailed library of information regarding its history.
when the bentley speed 8 made its debut at le mans in 2003 it arrived on the heels of two years of efforts featuring cars with a similar moniker but quite different designs. never mind that because bentley is owned by volkswagen (since 1998) the car was powered by an audi motor, and especially never mind that the bentley was to all intents and purposes, a slight overhaul of the highly successful audi prototype that had been very successful in its own right winning le mans in the previous two years.
here is a photo of this lovely car at speed in the 2002 season . . .
detailed images and information connected to the 2003 speed 8 can be found here.
if the idea of owning one of these vehicles is in the back of your mind but your bank statement says “no” then you might want to consider this close second opportunity to own a 1/8 scale replica of this magnificent machine. 100 of these models have been manufactured and each can be yours for 2,750 pounds which at today’s exchange would cost you 5,499 cdn dollars.
to own a beautiful scale-version of the first bentley to win at le mans in 73 years then visit the amalgam fine collection.
