radiohead's house of cards

in addition to producing consistently fine and challenging music, radiohead stretches the creative envelope of their work through utilizing cutting edge technology both in the music they create and in the interface between themselves and their listeners / viewers. the latest video from their in rainbows release is entitled house of cards.

the technology used in the making of this video is sufficiently innovative and exciting that a page dedicated to the “making of” can be seen and read here.
from that page, the following snip of techno-advice . . . “radiohead just released a new video for its song "house of cards" from the album "in rainbows".
no cameras or lights were used. instead two technologies were used to capture 3d images: geometric informatics and velodyne lidar. geometric informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3d images at close proximity, while a velodyne lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. in this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.”

intriguingly, instructions for manipulating the images in this video are provided here and for creating your own data visualizations here.

but back to the song . . . here are the lyrics . . .
Radiohead Lyrics
House of Cards Lyrics

and here’s the film . . .
