husqvarna solar powered auto mower

off-grid and automatic. perhaps the most intriguing double-whammy currently available in the lawn-mower field, the solar-powered auto mower from husqvarna runs off rechargeable batteries . the nickel-metal-hydride battery runs for 1.5 hours off a single charge and takes about an hour to recharge. when the mower reaches half its battery capacity, it looks for a signal that comes from the docking station and motors itself over to it for recharge. a recharging wire extends from the docking station and guides the mower onto its power booster.

in addition to a charging station, the auto mower comes with a large integrated solar panel. when there is daylight available, the solar cells enable the mower to extend its cutting periods before it needs recharging. that means even lower power consumption and an extended battery life.
the auto mower contains on-board sensors that receive signals generated from a permanently installed perimeter wire that defines the area in which the mower roams. if the mower moves beyond the perimeter wire, it stops. this little machine can handle up to half an acre of grass and is designed to maintain the property daily, rather than on the typical once-a-week schedule.

to see how this little machine cuts your lawn, have a look at the mower demo. by the way, the demo will remind you of playing ”pong” (that’s for those of you old enough to remember “pong”!) to really appreciate the demo, be sure to put it on “fast forward” unless you have several hours to spend watching the little green lines gradually fill the screen!

there is one bit of bad news for my canadian readers and that is that this product is not available in canada just yet! however, should you really wish one, i am sure that you could cross the “world’s longest undefended border” and pick one up.
