the singing, ringing tree is located on some lonely moorland not very far from pendle hill. pendle is very well known for a variety of reasons, one of which is its proximity to the pendle witch trials. many years ago - twenty plus i think - i walked near pendle hill while completing the pennine way.

it’s a beautiful somewhat isolated location. what’s very unique about this location now is that it is the site on which an art installation dependent on the wind is placed. named the "singing, ringing tree", it is one of four sculptures within the panopticons arts and regeneration project created by the east lancashire environmental arts network . the project was set up with the mandate to erect a series of 21st-century landmarks, or panopticons (structures providing a comprehensive view).
