the canal pathway . . .

wendy and i took chelsea the golden wonderhound for a walk alongside the canal this afternoon. first we searched for the portal and then we found it under a cascading bough of rowanberries. we had such a happy time on the other side of the portal, and the reflections in the water were incredible!!!!

the river's skin

the sky - a mottled gathering of small puffy clouds, reflects in the skin of the river.

reflective ducks

i loved watching these ducks swimming into the reflections and seemingly pulling the "paint" of the reflections, upstream with them.

look at the little duck at the back on the left of the first picture. almost as if it saw what was happening!!!

in my mother's garden

august 2015. in my mother's garden . . . the subtleties abound at this time of year. her flowers are almost done, the ferns are past their emerald effulgence, and yet there are gentle reminders to slow down, even to stop. somewhat like those that my mother brings to play when we are together.

she is old enough (and certainly wise and rich in life's passages enough) to be able to suggest that "it doesn't matter", with the sort of gentle authority that bears witness to a deep experiencing of all - all that life has to offer . . . .

fallen petals . . .

you must understand the whole of life, not just
one little part of it. that is why you must read,
that is why you must look at the skies, that is
why you must sing and dance, and write poems,
and suffer, and understand, for all that is life.

cicada

when you see these images at first they look a little bit, well, if you don't like bugs they likely make you feel a bit uncomfortable.

a little research though, and i discovered that what i'm looking at here with you is the molted casing of a periodical cicada. they are the kind that only arrive every seventeen years!!!

ritchie falls

recently wendy drove me along little secret roads until we arrived at a place called ritchie falls. here there is a beautiful waterfall followed by some smallish rapids. what was truly astonishing and overwhelming for me was to get so near to that powerful force.

after a while, i needed ever so badly to be near a quieter sort of place and by chance i discovered several little rivulets that had somehow made their way under tree roots and around old lichen encrusted boulders.

the pictures i took today hold something of what i saw and felt of the very fragile light and colour that exists in these beautiful water pathways . . .
