a late long walk home

i took the very long route home along the eastern shore of the otonabee . . . it was entirely worth the extra distance, the extra time, the extra chill that set in on my hands . . .

the morning walk in . . .

in the wintertime, when it is either too cold or too snowy and icy for me to ride my bicycle, i walk in to school. it is a five and a half kilometre walk and takes around an hour. i stop many times along the way to take photographs of what i see. i do this because i think that it is very easy to overlook or miss the simply beautiful, the subtly wonderful, the gently magical.

bronze sun

the sun has been making the occasional appearance recently. it's a source of true joy for the winter walker, not because it provide any heat as much as because it makes for light which somehow lifts the spirits and makes the walking that much more beautiful . . .

heading south . . .

the canada geese, not me!  with windchills reaching minus thirty five, it was cold enough with five layers on top and bottom . . . . i don't know how these birds manage. evidently they've had enough!

the spirit leaves (ii)

i rode down to the riverside this morning. the river has a film of ice about one to one and a half inches thick close in to the shore now. the leaves are becoming more and more indistinct . . .
