where the beaches meet the river

walking in this morning . . .
the tiny branches that touch the water
have gathered dinner-plate sized discs of ice about their tips . . .

light!

i walked in this morning and there was light inside and out - light!
the colours, the texture, even the taste of the air was so very different. so, please forgive me but i thought on the word "scud", you know, when the summer clouds scud 'cuz there's something coming in . . . it's right there my friends .... just down the line . . . for now, i'm grateful for the late january subtleties of early morning colours and the sweet good softness of the everflowing river . . .

seeking means:

words from a book that first found me through my cool aunt margaret who brought hesse's writing and so much more into my world, back when i was a teenager looking inwards and outwards and seeing much more consonance than i was to know until very very recently . . . . .
“when someone seeks," said siddhartha, "then it easily happens that his eyes see only the thing that he seeks, and he is able to find nothing, to take in nothing because he always thinks only about the thing he is seeking, because he has one goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. seeking means: having a goal. but finding means: being free, being open, having no goal.”
hermann hesse, siddhartha

marbling

walking to school through falling snow.
as it gathers in the river it turns to a sort of fine slush that catches the slight rhythms of the river . . .

into the woods

on the very best days, life simply happens . . .
today we went into the woods . . .

and in the woods there was so much beauty.
it was,
gently overwhelming . . .

and sometimes, when we were speaking so very softly,
the trees gathered in closer so that they could hear the poetry,
know our breathing . . .

everything in the woods
- including the two of us -
gathers in
and celebrates its place in the wholeness ...
