and then i left

on the day of my leaving cuba, the skies were wistful and threadbare

closer to the earth the very tiny joy that is a flower
held me close

and then i left

  1. Steven, I think the clouds were trying to keep you their in a gauzy hold, and the periwinkle kissed and smiled you good-bye. Those clouds are inspiring and soothing. The second image is so evocative, an eye . . .

  2. hi ruth - i thought that very thought at the moment i saw the clouds. but then solipsism is a thread - a thin one mind you - but a thread all the same that floats as free in the space of me as those beautiful clouds!!!! i felt so lucky to see them - they were so fragile and disappeared at the moment i looked down where i was walking and saw the little periwinkle. steven

  3. steven, a sky to remember, indeed. The little periwinkle, a small token of farewell.

  4. As I read this and looked at your images of clouds and the tiny flower I'm so grateful that we have the ability to take photographs to remember the beauty we encounter in our days. And even more, to share them with others.

  8. I think your tiny periwinkle is a beautiful messenger.

The five-pointed flower brings to mind the five elements of The Tao...fire (or sun), earth, water, wood (or green growing things), and metal. All are needed to attain perfect harmony.

I think you found it in Cuba.
