each morning
the lilies
gather together
and arrange themselves
into relationships
of form
and inform
and conform
making themselves
attractive to the bees
because they
love themselves
and wish
for nothing more than to continue
to surprise
and especially
to celebrate
and most very especially
to be celebrated for
their simple existence
They set a good example for us.
ReplyDeleteA pleasure to come across early morning!
ReplyDeleteHappy August to you and all Leo's. I think the bees and the lilies are not only celebrating each other, but the time of year when you were born. Cheers!
ReplyDeletehey dan! yes. it's so simple. steven
ReplyDeletehi alaine, these were taken in early morning and mid-afternoon light. i love lilies and i'm thinking that some more of their buddies should move into my backyard to add some colour and their presence. steven
ReplyDeletehey reya - wow it is august isn't it!!! my birth month for sure. that means cake maybe. hurray!! steven
ReplyDeleteWe humans are not unlike these lilies, then are we? If only the thoughts you give them could be our own...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sentiments!
Rick
hey rochester rick!! it's really hard work to hold that point of knowing - there's so much that comes into any relationship that moderates, mediates, muddles. but you know that. to come back to the essential goodness of each other - well that's a gift. i see so much of that simplicity reflected in the rest of the natural world. it's a good place to look for understanding. have a peaceful day. steven
ReplyDeleteand so they are.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wondrous way to describe it. I so like thinking now that the lilies make themselves attractive to the bees. That is great.
ReplyDeleteellen flowers have always amazed me. but then so do bees. i mean they shouldn't be able to fly. but they do. how do flowers know to make themselves smell and look so beautiful?! that's magic to me. steven
ReplyDeletehey technobabe - well i figure they have a deal with the bees because otherwise they can't reproduce so they make themselves look good for the bees. the thing is they look good to me as well and i don't have anyting to do with their pollination. it's pure magic to me. steven
ReplyDelete"Consider the lilies of the field." A beautiful post Steven and magnificent photographs. Yes, I believe that we can learn a great deal from nature. I think that the transcendentalists felt the same--Emerson and Thoreau. Here is a poem on the Lily by Mary Oliver from Panhala.net that I thought you might enjoy.http://www.panhala.net/Archive/The_Lily.html.
ReplyDeletePeace,
Noelle
