“someone i loved once gave me a box full of darkness.
it took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.”

  1. Yes, a gift indeed, Steven. I love the darkness when I switch off the light after getting into bed at night - there is something soothing about it.

  2. Awestruck.

Every morning when I get dressed, when I turn off my dressing table lamp, I say "God is love, God is light." Maybe I should add "God is also darkness."

  3. darkness as a real event and darkness as an experienced event with no referents other than the sudden or gradual arrival of the rich emptiness of awareness of otherness or difficulty or sadness or whateverness is a teacher as truthful and complete as light. steven
