leaving the beginning behind

we wind
and then we unwind
our hands flinging first skyward
and then earthwards -
each lost in our own small dance

the music i listened to while writing these words is by omar faruk tekbilek: "whirling dervish"

  1. Those outward reaching leaves could be people in a maypole dance. Wrong season perhaps but I hope you get the image. It attempts to meet your words.

  2. do you know elisabeth - this little plant is growing underneath a car. when i saw it i was so astonished. it receives sun a couple of hours a day and then lives in shadow for the rest of the day. water arrives through the rain. its body suggested a reaching up and reaching down to me. unconcerned with its challenges or unlikeliness. steven

  12. I am almost always dancing inside, but I need to dance physically too. Growing up without it, it doesn't come naturally. But I will dance with my grandson, a lot.

  13. Ah HA! Never could have guessed, but I LOVE that piece of music and used to listen to it all the time... now where IS that CD so I can share it with my students Monday. Or, maybe for some, I'm inflicting music on them.... I guess I can see some of the gifts of mp3s vs. cds, but, like books, I think I'll always love the hard copy.

  14. valerianna - i have a largish collection of cds but to be truthful, they aren't played as often as the music on my ipods which are of the largish storage capacity kind and which are linked into a really nice dock. it's different. see i come from the time when you bought 45's and albums and there was the thin plastic film that you cracked and then the liner notes and the gatefold sleeves and all of the sensory and emotive pieces that go with that. but now i am grateful for the amazing music alone and have learned to live without all the complimentary peripherals. i do miss them though! steven
