Cicadas are so amazing. They seem so sturdy and enduring. When we lived in Kansas our dog would find their castoff bodies and eat them like pork rinds. They probably have a nice texture if you can be objective. And their seven (?) year nap is flat out remarkable. The sound they make is slightly otherworldly and ominous, but at the same time kind of lulls one into a semi tropical torpor.
I don't think we have those up here- This one is quite handsome- he would make a lovely brooch... They are too large to fly up ones nose i am guessing.
How come the body is wider in the second picture? Did he/she puff his chest with pride at being photographed? LOL

Steven, I laugh and shake my head at a person with so much composure that they can hear, "hey, whatsup?" upon encountering a cicada.
ReplyDeleteTruth be told, they have their own beauty, as does anything in this realm, but most of us would yelp and bat it away!
We had thousands upon thousands of them this year in the American midwest, and it was hard not to feel we were in the midst of a plague.
You are amazing.
lovely site!
ReplyDeletegreat photos, beautiful words.
He is beautiful! The sound of August is cicadas.
ReplyDeleteNice to see one alive!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I'd find their shed skins sticking to pine trees and wonder what they looked like!
