first dance

new red maple leaves catch the first light of day

it's as simple as that

light
colour
life

seeing

one tiny iteration
of the love that connects

  1. ..maple trees are one of my favourites... they speak histories and sing songs of ineffable bliss when Pan blows his pipe...

    Thanks for the poem.

  4. Love the poem. We have a maple outside the kitchen window. It is so many things at different times of the year, I very easily connected dwith your thoughts.

  5. Reading and appreciating all your work lately, but keeping mostly quiet for a few days. I'm sure you understand.

This one, despite its brevity, spoke volumes to me.

    Thank you.

  7. windowlad - they are so embedded int the visual and cultural psyche of canadians. this image was right there early one morning and it was as if the seasonal moebius strip had turned in on itself and it was autumn all over again. steven

  8. radcliffe - i was feeling very quiet and insular when i wrote this. i felt as if the explanation of the leaf's very existence which is so self explanatory was being cheapened by me. thanks for the kind words. steven

  9. reya thanks for the kind wishes. i run on seven and nine year cycles. this is my 54th journey around the sun. so a 6th cycle is concluding and a seventh is beginning. the next one carries me through the end of my public working life. it also welcomes back my creative working life. steven
