a peninsula of light

following a worn and fractured canyon
i got caught in the lift and tread of my feet
until finally emerging into
a peninsula of light
i heard the mumbled beginnings
of a tale of tales
worn bare
through their retelling

and i listened to the old stories
all the same
because
they pointed the way

past serpents bent on devouring
whatever was handy

and especially because
i have always wanted to find
the golden icicle cave

which as everyone knows
is where the real treasures are kept

  14. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you certainly have an eye for beauty. Your golden icicle cave has music and rhythm. I can imagine I hear the clear, hollow bell tones just looking at the photo. Lovely and peaceful Steven, thank you.

  18. hello jo! stories are assembling in my head and they will find their way into circulation in the future. of that i am certain. for me the key is to see stories as a doorway, a map, a place to begin and then to leave behind. so they have to be good!!! thanks for your kind comment. steven

  26. And 'real treasures' there are in these photos and interpretative musings of yours. I couldn't resist downloading the golden icicle cave and now have it as my PC desktop screen image. Not to worry, I give you 'proper' credit each time I look at it by smiling and thinking 'that's from my friend Steven'. Have a beautiful treasure hunt of a day.
