three white petals

my favourite woodlot
has bloomed
with trilliums

an annual event
much quieter
than the riotous
return of birdsong
but equally joyful

and easily as beautiful

simply
beautiful

  1. A trillium party! They are astonishingly beautiful all dressed alike! Like when all of the Moonies get married and there are about a million brides in white all looking the same- it is startling, and beautiful.

  2. So lovely. There is beauty in simplicity; simplicity in beauty. How long do the blossoms show their splendor?

  3. Simply beautiful, as you say, Steven. It must be a joy to wander through such a subtle but glorious floral carpet.

  4. Gosh these are lovely, and a whole wood full.
Here I am afraid we look as if we are entering another drought in what should be an assured rain area of 28 inches. We are very late we hope to have a break in March, the latest ANZAC day and here we are past the middle of May.
What I would give for a normal (if there is such a thing) year.

  8. That is a very healthy crop of trilliums, Steven. We're doing well here ourselves. This must be the year of the trillium.

  11. I'll have to echo Bonnie, here. That's an amazing number of trilliums. Here in the Pacific Northwest you're lucky to find two or three together by the trail.

Even Trillium Lake on Mt. Hood has nothing to compare with this field.

  14. Wow, I don't think we get trilliums here.
And that is a very big party, and yet at perfect peace. I also love the perspective of the photograph.
    Quiet beauty indeed.

  18. penny i think that "normal" in many parts of our life is a dynamic thing. the weather - well it would be synonymous with dynamic wouldn't it!!! we haven't had much rain and they are thinking it'll be a hot dry summer. alright. i'll take whatever mother nature thinks we need. steven

  24. When I look at this photo I must think of Lord Tennysons - Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal -
    beautiful in its simple,delicate shape,Trillium.

    "The White Trillium
    Trillium graceful,Trillium white,
star of the woodland,Lady of light
Lo, how she proudly stands in the glade,
    tri-sceptred sovereign,Queen of the shade.
    Stately she rises slender-stemmed,tall,
gracious response to springs early call,
    lifting three leaf-arms
    high from the sod,gazing with
pure face lip at her god."

    Milena Matcska

    Have a nice day Steven

  26. What truly lovely flowers they are! We never see a grouping like that here in BC. Maybe two or three. I guess that's why they're the flower of Ontario. Happy Spring Steven.

  27. My mom had a neighbor whose daughter changed her legal name to Trillium Puffin - it makes a little more sense now - but just a little!

    They are incredible flowers!
