passing through

i stood alone
on the curb
as evening sank
to the earth
like rain-soaked curtains
carelessly draped
in deep violet folds
and smeared
with the slight stain
of the night train's
hissing
pale fire

  8. The poem and painting together are wonderful.
When I saw the painting I thought of Whistler (I am a big fan of his work) and sure enough Adams was a student of his. I will have to do some research on him.

  13. LOVE THIS! I so feel the weight of the curtain and the fire of the night train, so much so that I can not walk- really I tried to get up to get a cup of tea and I couldn't walk!Either I have been sitting for too long or someone came in and stole my legs or I am deeply affected by this post. Maybe all...
