detritus

when i think of the little bits of me
that i have scattered without care
across the landscape of my passing

i am left wondering
whether any took flower

or filled a silence

occupied an uncomfortable space

or if perhaps they lie there still

beautiful little moments

  12. Steven Even in the worst soil( mine is clay and sand) your "detritus" has pretty much rooted, More in the heart area than the head. And isn't that what poets do?

    LOVE the "confetti" !
( from comment left)Love that you ate cough drops and drank beer when you were starving without a sou to your name, happily! As though that was the best thing ever. That bit of detritus became a massive garden!

  13. Hi Steven

when I was counselling and progress so slow or seemingly invisible I used to remind myself that what I was doing was sowing seeds, some fell on fertile ground and germinated quickly, others took longer but eventually burst through the ground and yet still others lay dormant, but I reassured myself that given the right context and set of conditions they may well germinate at a later date...

and I think of teaching like that too, and perhaps we can use this metaphor for life too, when we are casting kindness and care abroad...

    Happy days

  16. linda sue - the challenge of sewing seeds in soil that's not supposed to support life is a life's work. there are avenues and dusty lanes that lead to the heart of a sad or lonely land. so many of my students live there and i reach them through the heart. let them see their value. have a peaceful evening. steven

  17. hi delwyn, this is so apt and really gets after the essence of this piece. so much of what i value in the passing of my life through this place is located in the lasting effect my work has on the people i have contact with. i don't look for the imediacy of response as much as the hope that it leads to a sense of the beauty of this place as a metaphor for something far beyond. steven

  19. hey linda sue! "colour" has floated back and forth and around the town through my friends for some time now. i love it and espcially for its giving a different kind of life to colour than i usually know and experience. no surprise that you are lost inside it as well!!! steven

  20. It really is a remarkable thought, that bits and pieces of you have touched others along the way. I used to work in a bank and over the years have received many compliments on my smile and how I've cheered customers up. It costs nothing to smile.
I love the photo too, natural biodegradable confetti!
