the moon at one


one a.m.

my eyes are drawn skyward into the absolute of an utterly still world.

so still.



so still, you don't want to breathe.

because if you breathe,
it might all just
drift away.

    hello alaine - since i turned fifty i've been waking up in the middle of the night almost every night - for an hour or two - and it's not a big problem because i use that time to work through things, think about ideas, run undreamed dreams through my head - and then i sleep. but last night there was the moon and the acy clouds and i ran downstairs and got my camera and out on the cool night air deck i took pictures. thanks for the link to the pictures. along with everything else, i love pictures of space - they're the best art!!! i hope your lamb was lovely. steven

    hi kay - i was shocked that anything turned out. i took a handful of pics and this one - after some messing around in iphoto - was the one that came closest to what i was seeing at the time. trouble is i know nothing about cameras and there's probably a dial or a switch i could make turn night pictures into acts of sheer genius!!!! have a lovely day. steven

    hellot titus - fragile's the word. there i was at one in the morning, in less than i should have been wearing and shivering as i tried to take a picture of the moon. what madness possessed me?!!! astonishment. pure astonishment at the moment. there it was!! have a peaceful day. steven

    I love it that Willow calls it "old devil moon."

    The pic is beautiful. Love the star or planet to the left of the moon as well. Must be a planet it is so bright.

    mmm hmmm it was just off-centre and so bright and big. i thought "hey maybe i'm lucking out and seeing the space station"! i'd be happier if it was a planet.......

    That planet, so big and bright, is Mars. It's as big and bright as it will ever get in our lifetimes, so enjoy.

    I took my moon shots last night and will post them tonight, but what is interesting is that I noticed a bright star to the right of the moon...and you have one to the left...

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    I wonder if you reversed the image perhaps ...do you see that bright star on the left or right?
    Oh, I just had another look at yours...my star on the right is much closer...different star obviously...
